2Brendan Banfield Convicted in Virginia Double Murder Trial Former IRS officer found guilty of killing his wife and another man.

A Fairfax County jury convicted Banfield of two counts of aggravated murder in the 2023 deaths of Christine Banfield and Joseph Ryan.

Prosecutors described a premeditated scheme linked to an affair with the family’s au pair to lure and kill the victims.

Commonwealth’s Attorney outlined evidence including testimony from the au pair who took a plea deal and cooperated with prosecutors.

Banfield also was convicted of child endangerment and firearm charges and faces a mandatory life sentence; sentencing set for May.

Defense maintained Banfield acted in self-defense, questioning prosecution motives; jurors rejected that account after deliberations.

Banfield’s sentencing is scheduled for May 8, concluding the high-profile case that drew national attention to the investigation and trial process.
